Paintings Below Zero, February '08, Chicago |
In February of '08 the City of Chicago sponsored an art exhibit in Millenium Park. The art, a colorful ice wall measuring 95 feet long and 12 feet tall, was made by Canadian artist Gordon Halloran. The wall involved a lot of technoligy, refrigeration pipes, acrylic paint, and ice molds. |
Every day the crew worked on the piece, cleaning off the previous nights frost and adding to parts that had melted. One day the temperature reached 50oF |
On February 29 the project ended and the whole piece became a puddle on the ground. The project seemed very fleeting to me. |
